Birthday Kids - Pastries

Everybody adores pastries next to birthday cakes.  Baked goods of any kind can add more "la dolce vita" vibe to any birthday party.  Pastries are commonly made from flour, butter, shortening, baking powder or eggs.   Popular pastry dishes include pies, tarts and quiches.


Pastry lovers know that pastry is different from bread only by one factor -- having a higher fat content.  This fat content makes pastry flaky or crumbly, unlike bread.


Pastries are often light, airy and a bit oily.  But they are strong enough to hold the weight of the pastry payload -- mouth-watering filling!


Pastries are a favorite food since the ancient times.  Evidences point to ancient Mediterranean pastry lovers indulging in paper-thin multi-layered baklava and filo. French and Italian Renaissance chefs eventually mastered the Puff and Choux pastries.  In the 17th and 18th century pastry chefs made new heavenly pastries such as brioche, Napoleons, cream puffs, and ├ęclairs.
